Chinese New Year 2020 - Year of the Rat was clebrated at the Lawrence Chinese Camp with Dancing, music, Lion dance performances and food. The fun day drew around 250 people for entertainment and children's activities.

Chinese New Year occurs today, and tomrrow the 157-year-old former gold rush camp will celebrate the start of the Year of the Dragon by holding a combined cultural festival and country fair.

Trustees attended a ceremony for the reinterment of Chinese, who among the 34 settlers exhumed, had lived in the Tuapeka region during the gold rush period. A christian ceremony was followed by a Cantonese ceremony led by Les and Maisie Wong. The ODT ariticle can be read here
